October Message from the Chair
October 24th, 2006 by Administrator— Congratulations are in order for Jeanne Seewald and Mark Stein, Chair and Vice Chair of the Intellectual Property Committee. In August and September they worked extensively to identify nine attorneys who were preeminent in their field, achieved as a group diversity and geographical balance and who were committed to creating the certification materials for IP. As you all would expect, all nine of the attorneys suggested by them were appointed to the inaugural 9-member certification committee: Robert C. Kain, Jr., Jeff Lloyd, Stefan Stein, James A. Gale, Stephen Nagin, Michael Chesal, Don Conwell, Ava K. Doppelt and Mark E. Stein. You will recognize many of those names. Congratulations to all!
Congratulations are also in order for Kacy Lake and Bruce Udolf. Through very fast action, we worked again with Hank Coxe to nominate attorneys – meeting all of Hank’s requirements – to participate in a 15-member task force to analyze the erosion of the attorney-client privilege in white collar crime and other cases. Our own Kacy Lake and Bruce Udolf of the Berger Singerman firm were appointed to this task force.
We cannot thank all of great members and friends of the Section enough for spending more tireless days working to advance the work of our Section and clients in Florida.
— Atlantis, November 10th – 12th. For those of you attending and those who might just fly in for a quick meeting, lunch or dinner, here is the schedule for our Atlantis weekend. Keep watching your emails for the meeting agenda and package of materials. Soon… I promise soon! [If you have dining questions, please talk to Austin.]
— November 17th: Watch for the announcement… the first JOINT meeting of the BLS and Real Property Section to discuss opinion standards. Phil Schwartz, Robert Barron and JC Ferrer are quickly pushing this project forward. Phil also just returned from a great, well-attended meeting in New York as our Section representative. The timing is perfect for this project! Look for this Committee’s report in Atlantis.
— Marketing: It’s time to place another ad in The Florida Bar News. If you want your committee highlighted, please send me the information you want promoted ASAP! First come, first to be promoted.
Finally, a word to UM alums on the EC. Please spread the word about UM’s upcoming Homecoming events Nov. 2-5, 2006

January 19, 2006 Midyear Luncheon
January 20th, 2006 by AdministratorSection members enjoyed the warm and engaging remarks of Judge Patricia Ann Seitz at the Midyear Luncheon of the Section. Judge Seitz discussed her implementation of new procedures since May 2005 based on feedback from this group and others, her move to a three law clerk system, some reflections on issues she has seen arising from contractual arbitration provisions and the cost of arbitration, and some personal experiences that brought the fun back into the practice of law.

Judge Seitz shares a moment with Chair-elect Diane Noller Wells and her longtime friend and former Bar President campaign manager, Scott Baena, and separately with Miami attorney, Ken Darrow.
